Allergies West Hills

Allergies are uncontrollable reactions to stimuli and produce flu-like symptoms.  They affect a sizable portion of the population and numerous patients are unaware that they have them.   At West Hills Urgent Care, we provide remedies for patients with allergies in the form of medications and preventative guides.

Allergy medications are available in forms such as pills, liquids, inhalers, nasal sprays, eyedrops, skin creams, and shots.  Some of them can be accessed through over-the-counter methods, while others can only be obtained by obtaining prescriptions from doctors.

Antihistamines, pills and liquids are available to prevent the release of chemicals during an allergic reaction.  They can be purchased through over-the-counter methods or as prescription drugs.  They ease additional symptoms such as runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, hives, and swelling.  Nasal sprays are another option in reducing these symptoms.

For swollen or itchy eyes, you can use eyedrops.  These are available almost anywhere and contains antihistamine properties.    If you need temporary relief for nasal or sinus congestion, decongestants are an effective solution.  They are not recommended for pregnant women or individuals with a history of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, or hyperthyroidism.

To treat asthma or allergies caused by airborne triggers, inhalers provide constant relief.  They produce minor side effects such as mouth or throat irritation and are used with corticosteroids.  Skin cream provides relief for skin reactions such as redness, scaling, or itching.  Avoid long-term use and contact your doctor if side effects appear for a prolonged period.
